The Legend of Petoskey:
(the following legend is printed on the back
of all Petoskey Stone Michigan Mugs)

The Petoskey stone was named the state stone of Michigan in 1965.
The city of Petoskey, Michigan gets its name from an old Ottawa Indian Chief, Ignatius Petosega. "Pet-o-sega" means "rays of the rising sun".

Petoskey Stones are named in reference to the dark-colored "eye" & radiating lines of individual Hexagonaria corallites.

The first printing of the
Petoskey Stone Michigan Mugs looked like this:

Mac Bridge
Our new style at the top of this page has new art
and a legend on the back. The new art is based on the old art
but is more "3-D" in its appearance.
